About Us

FTF stands for "From the Fight" which is what Matt and Lisa's last name, Vande Vegte, means in Dutch. Matt's family line is also traced back to a tribe of warriors, hence the name "Warrior." The name is especially significant because both Matt and Lisa were diagnosed in their late teens with auto-immune diseases; Matt with Type-1 Diabetes and Lisa with Crohn's Disease. While these diseases are lifelong diagnoses, they both have been able to manage their diseases successfully and live happy, healthy lives. They are "From the Fight." Join the Tribe.

Matt Vande Vegte

Hey, my name is Matt and I am a Type 1 Diabetic, certified personal trainer and nutritionist, and author. I have been an athlete all of my life, including Rowing at San Diego State University for 3 years on varsity. In December 2009, I suffered many life altering events. I crashed my car, I struggled in school, my dog died, and I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. I chose to become stronger in the face of adversity. I chose to always put family first, to always make health a priority, and to always do my best to find the positives in any situation. If I focused on the positives, I was able to keep on going. Fast forward to post-college, I have held onto those commitments that I made to myself as well as built on them with new healthy habits. Fitness and Nutrition became a passion. I had a new purpose to help others, no matter what situation they were in. I strive to make the world a better place, one client at a time. I am From The Fight. Join our tribe.

Lisa Vande Vegte

Hi! I'm Lisa. Growing up, I was always a very active person. The summer before my senior year in high school, I was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease (a type of inflammatory bowel disease). I had to have surgery to remove the diseased part of my intestine and spent months in the hospital. I lost a significant amount of weight and struggled gaining it back. I suffered from malnutrition, fatigue, joint pain and chronic stomach aches almost daily. I was on anti-inflammatory medication indefinitely and couldn't gain weight no matter how hard I tried. I didn't know what to do. It wasn't until I was taking a nutrition class at SDSU that I became inspired to take back control of my health. I was motivated to learn everything I could about fitness and nutrition, and that I did. It was a long road to get to where I am today, but I no longer suffer from malnutrition, joint pain due to Crohns, or chronic stomach aches. In 2014, I was able to go off of my anti-inflammatory medication and I have been off it ever since, Praise the Lord! I am From The Fight. Join our Tribe.
